“For me, art is the language of the inner child: spontaneous, sincere and instinctive. ”

This is how Anna Caico describes herself as an artist. Raised in close contact with nature, she carries in her works the love for her environment and the passion for her home island of Sicily. But she also fell in love with Leuven and hopes to come here often.

After her studies in Florence, she moved to Pontedera in the province of Pisa, where she since 1999 lives and paints.

A fundamental phase in her artistic journey was her education at the ceramics school of Santo Stefano di Camastra, in the province of Messina. There Anna discovered the pleasure of direct contact with matter, an experience that shaped her way of painting. She likes to use her own fingers and other improvised tools, without committing to academic rules.

Abstract painting is her way of giving voice to intimate emotions and visions, in letting the gesture and the present moment guide the composition.

Anna prefers to use acrylic colours for their versatility. She is also attracted to metallic pigments, which reveal unexpected details depending on the light. Through different materials she creates textures and layers in a continuous process of discovery and mutual listening.

Over the years she has participated in personal and collective exhibitions and in various creative workshops, sometimes also led by herself. She also made commissioned work for private individuals and various companies.
