Leuven gets color in TABLOO through the cheerful cityscapes of Geert Lesage from Kessel-Lo. Geert trained as a typo-offset printer at the HIGRO in Ghent. The frequent mixing of Pantone colors made him a self-taught painter with an unprecedented fascination for expressive use of color. Partly due to his background as a printer, where precision and color sharpness are very fundamental, his work seems very realistic. Yet upon closer inspection you discover that strange impressionist accent that is so characteristic of Geert's style.
Painting is always a journey of discovery for this Leuven artist. He makes his preliminary designs on paper and then completely colors them with colored pencils. Only then does the search on the canvas start. Using the brush or painting knife, Geert lets his acrylic paint come to life on the canvas, wet on wet or not. The result is works that leave no one unmoved: enormously colorful, sympathetic, accessible, emotional and always somewhat recognizable to the viewer.
