During the exhibitions of this spring time (March-April 2016) TABLOO stays loyal to artists of the own region of Leuven. Allthough Jan Debeurme lives since many years with his wife and children in Kessel-Lo close to the Abbay of Vlierbeek, his paintings take you on an exotic trip back to his African roots. Jan was actually born in 1957 in the former Belgian Congo where he also grew up.
A few years ago Jan started looking for a creative hobby. After some first experiments in drawing (with charcoal), watercolour painting and the airbrush technique, he finally found his way towards acrylic painting thanks to the catching enthousiasm and all the tips and tricks of his teacher Martin Oluwadiran.
This painting activity invoked some of his youth memories. The warm colours in his paintings show these African influences. But he also made abstract paintings.
