Nicky Myny (°1986, Hasselt) comes to TABLOO with her series of ethnic portraits that she painted on canvas after many travels in Africa. As a child she was already impressed when her grandfather deconstructed old furniture and reconstructed it to a new shape. From her mother and grandmother she inherited the love for textile. That’s how she grew up to an all-round artist who likes experimenting with different materials and techniques and who loves collaborating with musicians, scientists and designers. She achieved several degrees, from fashion designer to a master in visual arts. In 2014 Myny started to exhibit and in 2017 she opened the multi-disciplinary art studio ARTKOM in Leuven offering space for artistic meetings. In 2018 she was nominated as meritorious artist at the city hall of Brussels because of her efforts on the artistic, social and cultural scene. In 2019 she received the public Wonder Woman Award at the fashion museum in Hasselt. In this way Nicky keeps on exploring the interaction between painting art and fashion design. She adopts her own visual language in her work. Several colour layers are applied in small fragments so that figurative subjects become partially abstract. At this moment she is working on a new series called “The Face of Music”.
