It’s not the first time in her artistic life that Corina Karstenberg (°1967) from The Netherlands crosses the Belgian border. After obtaining her qualification as carpenter and upholsterer at the age of 20, she moves to Brussels to study Restoration of Wood and Polychromy. At the same time, she takes painting classes at the Art Academy in Leuven under the supervision of Pol Mariën. During the last 2 years in Belgium, she works as restorer of ethnographic art at the Royal Museum For Central Africa in Tervuren (Brussels). After her experience with the crualties of the colonial past, she returns to her hometown to get a bachelor degree in religion studies and a master in History of Culture. From that moment, she starts to paint portraits that tell stories about people from all over the world, about dreams, emotions and fantasy. Human rights and actual topics become the core of her inspiration. Corina is now following a course in sculpture at the art academy of Genk.
