After having finished her secundary art studies in Leuven, Femke Pues (°1990) from Bertem ended up in the care sector, and in the care for her children. Through a painting contest of Royal Talens Amsterdam in 2020, the desire to create came up in her again. In the meantime, her own Instagram page ‘Pues Art’ provides positive responses from family, friends and colleagues.
Initially, Femke worked with acrylic paint, and then started to experiment with other techniques and materials, especially the ones that she likes using at the time. Although often undervalued, oil pastels became her beloved medium: “You can use it in different ways and in combination with other materials and/or backgrounds, very abstract or just figurative. You can also easily mix the colors. In short, much more than you think through the oil in the pastels," she says.
She appoints the themes of her work rather as classic, being portraits of animals and people. But by letting her sense of color combinations speak, for both portrait and background, they come to life. For example, the skin may not always have skin color and the dog's coat may also be purple.
